What is World Health Day?

World Health Day is a global awareness day that we celebrate on the 7th of April of every year under the observation of WHO i.e., World Health Organization as well as other organizations.

Why do we celebrate World Health Day?

World Health Day was first celebrated on 7th April 1950 by the First World Health Assembly.
World Health Day is seen as an opportunity for attention to the major importance of global health each year. World Health Day is one of eight official global health annual campaigns marked by WHO, along with World no tobacco day, World tuberculosis day, World Aids Day, World Immunization Week, World Malaria Day, World blood donor day, and world hepatitis Day.

WHO: Our Planet, Our Health During a pandemic, the planet is polluted and diseases like cardiac arrest, asthma, and cancer are highly increasing.

What does WHO have to say about this?

On this World Health Day of 2022, WHO will focus on keeping humans and the planet healthy. And it will give attention to overall well-being.

The estimation of WHO is that more than 13 million deaths around the world every year are because of environmental causes which are unavoidable.  The single biggest threat humanity is facing currently is the climate crisis. The climate crisis is also a health crisis.

Climate and health crises are being fuelled by our political, social, and commercial decisions. Over 90% of people inhale polluted air caused by the burning of fossil fuels. Mosquitoes are spreading diseases farther and faster than ever before as the world warms.

People are being displaced and their health is being harmed as a result of extreme weather occurrences, land degradation, and water scarcity. Pollution and plastics have made their way into our food chain and were also discovered in human blood very recently.

It can be discovered at the bottom of our deepest oceans and tallest mountains. Systems that create highly processed, unhealthy foods and beverages are fuelling an obesity epidemic, increasing cancer and heart disease, and accounting for a third of global greenhouse gas emissions.

The current economic structure results in inequitable income, wealth, and power distribution, with far too many people still living in poverty and insecurity. Human well-being, justice, and ecological sustainability are the goals of a well-being economy.

Long-term investments, well-being budgets, social protection, and legal and budgetary methods are all used to achieve these objectives. Legislative action, business reform, and individual action are all needed to break these destructive loops for the earth and human health.

Talking about companies and workplaces, where safety and environment are the foundation for a sustainable and risk-free organization. Safety and health should be given priority and equal importance.

Health management is one of the prime significances. Being physically active, healthy, and happy is the key to enjoying every path of life. Unfortunately, health has taken a backseat because everyone is so busy with our lifestyles and busy schedule.

Though it’s not possible to implement all the changes. To increase a healthy and positive lifestyle and make our workplace happier, healthier and safer we should focus on a few preventive measures to reduce stress levels.

How can we keep our lifestyle healthy?

⦁ Say no to the snooze button: We know you cannot resist but those extra minutes can make you feel groggy and it can also affect the focus on your work.
⦁ Dedicated physical activity every day: 60 minutes of workout is just 4% of your entire day. So, taking a quick 30 mins walk or jog should be a cherry on top! You will feel boosted and energized for the whole day.
⦁ A healthy diet is key: It’s not only about counting on every calorie but being thoughtful about what you are putting into your body. Leafy green vegetables, fruits, meats, and nutritious grains will make your body and mind very happy.
⦁ Relax: Take a break, take time to relax from the hectic work schedule. Your body works hard for you so it is very important to treat your body well.
⦁ Think Positive: Always practice optimism. Stop thinking negatively, think about how you can make your life happy and healthy.
